Description
Fitted gracefully upon a square roof tile capping, behold the enchanting allure of the copper verdigris cockerel weathervane. This avian masterpiece, with its verdigris patina kissed copper, bestows a singular aesthetic charm, intertwining with and elevating the rooftop vista. A tangible symphony of form and function, this weathervane not only captivates the eye but also imparts practical insight into the whims of the wind, courtesy of the poised cockerel that crowns its zenith.
Standing tall at 33 inches (87 cm), the weathervane's stature commands attention, its square base measuring 12 inches by 12 inches (30 cm) and ascending to a height of 11 inches (28 cm). Fear not the prospect of structural intrusion, for the installation of this cockerel weathervane requires but a modest investment of effort and time. The affixation of the square roof tile capping to the rooftop, facilitated by mortar, ensures a secure and impervious seal against the elements.
Enhancing the installer's peace of mind is the inclusion of a discreet yet robust metal strap, a mechanical fix fitting for augmented stability. Boasting predrilled orifices, this adjustable strap accommodates various fastening methods, remaining concealed during the ridge base installation, thereby preserving a harmonious and timeless aesthetic. Versatility defines this weathervane, adorning roofs of diverse styles, from square to double hip, pyramid to tower, even flat surfaces.
Beyond the realm of rooftops, this cockerel weathervane transcends its utilitarian roots, doubling as a garden ornament to embellish outdoor spaces. An exquisite fusion of intricate design and pragmatic purpose, it stands as a testament to the marriage of artistry and functionality, enriching the visual tapestry of both roof and garden alike.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
