Description
Fitted on a gracefully curving half round roof ridge, the copper verdigris horse weathervane is more than a mere embellishment, it's a distinctive and enchanting addition to your home's exterior. Crafted for those seeking an extraordinary flourish for their roof, this weathervane merges aesthetics with functionality. The horse, poised in mid gallop, elegantly twirls with the breeze, skillfully indicating the wind's direction.
Included with the weathervane is a ridge tile fitting, available in the timeless terracotta shade or an array of other colours and finishes. Standing at an impressive 31.5 inches (80cm) in height, the half round ridge boasts a base measuring 10 inches (24 cm) wide, 12 inches (30 cm) long, and 8 inches (20.5 cm) high.
Installation is a low hassle affair, sparing you the complexities of drilling or attaching brackets. The half round roof ridge fitting smoothly integrates with mortar, ensuring a swift and straightforward setup. Alternatively, a resilient yet pliable metal strap provides a mechanical option, its pattern of pre cut holes facilitating secure attachment to the roof via screws, nails, or alternative fastening methods. This additional feature, concealed during traditional mortar installation, fortifies the weathervane's stability.
Versatility defines this horse ridge weathervane, adaptable to a spectrum of roofs, from gable ends to cottages, sheds, workshops, and even summer homes. Beyond its rooftop allure, it moonlights as a captivating garden ornament. This weathervane, with its intricate details and captivating form, draws attention skyward, transforming your roof into a statement of unique charm.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
