Description
Fitted on a dual arched ridge tile, the steel horse weathervane adds a touch of grace and allure to your roofscape. Meticulously forged from robust steel, this weathervane seamlessly combines aesthetic charm with practical functionality. Entrancingly responding to the whims of the wind, the horse becomes a whimsical guide to its direction. The default terracotta colour of the ridge tile fitting complements most roofs, but other colour options are available to harmonise with your individual style.
Standing tall at 39 inches (99 cm), the weathervane is fitted on a ridge base set at a 45 degree angle. The dimensions of the ridge base, measuring 12 inches (296 mm) in length and 9 inches (225 mm) in width, contribute to the weathervane's stately presence.
The horse weathervane is fitted to the roof through a mortar fixation to the ridge base, providing a low hassle alternative to fitting brackets in the normal way with weathervanes. The included discreet mechanical fix option involves a customisable metal strap, affixed with screws, nails, or other means. The strap is concealed beneath the ridge base during installation, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing result. The strap is there to give additional stability if required
The versatility of these horse ridge weathervanes transcends mere roof ornamentation, seamlessly complementing various roof styles, from gable ends to hip ends, houses to cottages, sheds to workshops, and even charming summer houses. Beyond roofs, their adaptability extends into gardens, where they become captivating ornamental focal points. Embrace the timeless beauty and functional elegance of the steel horse weathervane, an exquisite addition to your architectural tableau.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
