Description

Crafted from copper with a captivating verdigris finish, the labrador weathervane stands as an extraordinary and attention grabbing embellishment for your roof's aesthetic. Elevating both form and function, this weathervane twirls gracefully with the wind, indicating the wind's course. A departure from the commonplace, it not only enhances the visual appeal of your roof but also contributes a practical aspect.

With a square ridge tile cap defaulting to terracotta, alternative colours and finishes open up a spectrum of possibilities. The square ridge base, spanning 12 inches in both length and width, provides a solid foundation, while the weathervane itself ascends to a total height of 32 inches. These proportions ensure a remarkable presence on your rooftop, transforming it into a focal point.

Installing traditional weathervanes can pose challenges to the roof's integrity. In contrast, the labrador weathervane demands minimal effort for setup. The mortar securing the square ridge tile cap facilitates a swift and straightforward installation process. Additionally, a robust yet adaptable metal strap offers a mechanical fix for the weathervane, with multiple mounting holes allowing seamless attachment to the roof using screws, nails, or other means. Ingeniously designed, this strap can be concealed during the standard mortar bed ridge base installation, ensuring both stability and ease during setup.

Versatility defines these labrador ridge weathervanes, accommodating installation on roofs of diverse shapes and styles. From square to double hip, pyramid to tower, or even flat roofs, these weathervanes can be integrated. Their adaptability extends beyond rooftops, these ornamental pieces can enhance gardens, introducing intricate detail and a distinctive focal point. Adding this weathervane is a straightforward strategy to augment the visual allure of your roof and its surroundings.

Brackets & Fixings

There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:

Traditional mortar bedding

Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding

In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.

Dry fixing

An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
