Description
Adorning your rooftop with a maritime flourish, this steel sailboat weathervane perches gracefully upon a square ridge tile, bringing both visual allure and meteorological insight to your architectural tableau. Crafted from robust steel, this weathervane melds form and function, offering not only an aesthetic enhancement but also a practical indication of wind direction. Atop its structure, the sailboat elegantly pirouettes in response to the whims of the breeze, capturing the essence of nautical charm.
The square ridge tile fitting, typically fashioned from terracotta but available in an array of colours and finishes, integrates with your roofscape. Standing at an impressive 33.5 inches (85 centimeters) overall, with a 12 inch (30 centimeter) square ridge base and an 11 inch (28 centimeter) stature, this sailboat weathervane makes a striking statement against the sky.
Addressing the installer's reluctance to compromise a roof's watertight integrity, the square ridge tile fitting presents a low hassle installation process. Affixing securely with mortar, it eliminates the need for intrusive drilling or brackets. For added mechanical stability, a versatile metal strap accompanies the weathervane. This malleable strap, endowed with strength, allows for straightforward customization, featuring multiple holes for secure attachment through nailing, screwing, or alternative fastening methods. Once concealed beneath the mortar bed supporting the ridge, the metal strap ensures a robust and stable installation.
Versatility defines these sailboat ridge weathervanes, adaptable to a diverse array of roofs, from flat to square, double hip, pyramidal, to tower configurations. Beyond rooftops, these weathervanes transcend their meteorological purpose, doubling as captivating garden ornaments. Elevate your rooftop aesthetics with these weathervanes, infusing intricate details and captivating features into your architectural narrative.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
