Description
Crafted from exquisite copper, this weathervane boasts a sailboat motif that imparts timeless elegance to any rooftop. The copper facade, initially gleaming with a polished finish, gracefully weathers over time, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the structure it crowns. Tailored for installation atop roofs or as a captivating element in decorative arrangements, this sailboat weathervane combines functionality with visual allure.
Measuring an imposing 33.5" (85cm) in height, the sailboat gracefully responds to the wind's gentle caress, becoming a charming and whimsical indicator of its direction. The half round profile of the ridge spans 10" (24cm) in width, 12" (30cm) in length, and rises to a height of 8" (20.5cm), embodying both form and function.
Avoiding the need for cumbersome brackets, this weathervane aligns with the roofline, ensuring a swift and secure installation with mortar. An optional adjustable metal strap, equipped with multiple mounting holes, provides flexibility, accommodating screws or nails for added stability. Once the ridge base is in place, a discreet application of mortar conceals the metal strap, streamlining the installation process.
Beyond its architectural versatility, these sailboat ridge weathervanes transcend rooftops, finding a home on various structures, including gable ends, hip ends, homes, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer retreats. Their adaptability extends to the realm of garden aesthetics, transforming into charming accents that redefine outdoor spaces. Elevate your rooftop with the intricate detailing and captivating allure of these sailboat ridge weathervanes, an artful fusion of functionality and design.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
