Description

Fitted on rooftops with graceful allure, the steel spitfire weathervane embodies a striking manifestation of aviation inspired artistry. Its resplendent form, a testament to meticulous craftsmanship, elevates rooftops into realms of distinctive grandeur. Serving not merely as an ornate embellishment but as a functional arbiter of the wind’s direction, the spitfire gracefully soars, revealing the subtle secrets of the breeze.

The pinnacle of this weathervane is adorned with a splendid and distinctive finial decoration, integrating with the roofscape. Beyond its aesthetic charm, this weathervane boasts practical prowess. The default terracotta colour of the ridge tile fitting adds a touch of classic elegance, though alternative colours and finishes await those seeking bespoke allure.

Dimensions unfold as poetry in steel: an overall height of 38" (97cm) stands proudly, with a ridge base of 45 degrees, spanning 12" (296mm) in length and 9" (225mm) in width. The prospect of puncturing holes and affixing brackets to the roof, a hesitant dilemma for guardians of imperviousness to rainwater, finds solace in the weathervane's installation simplicity. Settling upon the roof with mortar, this spitfire weathervane unveils a straightforward installation path.

For the discerning installer, an optional mechanical fixing mechanism emerges, a robust metal strap, adaptable and easily tailored to the roof's contours. With discreet finesse, the installer fastens the strap, concealing it beneath the ridge base during the traditional mortar bed application, thus preserving the weathervane's seamless aesthetic. From gable ends to hip ends, houses to cottages, sheds to workshops, and even the serene sanctuaries of gardens, this weathervane finds its place, transcending the ordinary. A symbol of architectural refinement, it stands as the epitome of distinctive ornamentation, an artful testament to the marriage of form and function on the rooftop canvas.

Brackets & Fixings

There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:

Traditional mortar bedding

Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.

Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding

In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.

Dry fixing

An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
