Description
Fitted on your roofline, the steel pig weathervane, adorned with a captivating double arch ridge tile, boasts robust craftsmanship in its steel composition. This distinctive pig finial not only adds a touch of charm but also serves a practical purpose as a fully operational weathervane, gracefully pivoting with the breeze to reveal the wind's whims.
Standing at an impressive height of 34" (86cm), the 45 degree angle ridge base spans 12" (296mm) in length and 9" (225mm) in width, offering a sturdy foundation for the whimsical adornment. The standard terracotta colour of the ridge tile fitting can be customised, presenting alternative colours and finishes to harmonise with your architectural aesthetics.
Choosing this weathervane paired with the ridge tile eliminates concerns about compromising the roof's structural integrity or water resistance. Traditional bracket installations often involve drilling into the roof, a deterrent for many installers. However, this pig weathervane ensures a low hassle installation process. The ridge fitting beds onto the roof with mortar, offering an optional mechanical fix via a customisable metal strap. This flexible strap, featuring pre drilled holes, allows secure fastening to the roof structure, easily concealed later by applying traditional mortar to affix the ridge base.
Versatility is key, as customers can install these pig ridge weathervanes on various roof types, including gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and summer houses. Beyond roofs, this weathervane transcends its functional role, doubling as an ornamental delight within gardens. Elevate your outdoor space with a captivating focal point, infusing roofs and landscapes alike with whimsy and charm.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
