Description
Fitted majestically atop a double arch ridge tile, this steel owl weathervane embodies an exquisite fusion of form and function. Elevating the aesthetic allure of any roof, the ornate steel craftsmanship transforms it into a captivating focal point. Crafted with precision from resilient steel, this owl finial stands as a testament to artistic finesse, promising a metamorphosis of the roof's appearance.
Beyond its aesthetic appeal, this owl weathervane seamlessly marries beauty and functionality. A fully operational design allows the owl to pivot gracefully in response to the wind's direction, providing a charming indicator of the prevailing breeze. The ridge tile fitting, available in a standard terracotta colour can also be done in other colour finishes.
Impressively towering at 38" (97cm), this weathervane is tailored for a double arch ridge tile fitting, featuring a 45 degree angle tile base measuring 12" (296mm) in length and 9" (225mm) in width.
Choosing this weathervane over bracket mounted alternatives is a decision rooted in practicality. Concerns about compromising a watertight roofing system often deter installers from bracket installations. In contrast, the installation process for this owl weathervane is straightforward and low hassle. The ridge base seamlessly integrates into the roof using mortar, ensuring a secure and stable attachment. For added convenience, an optional mechanical fix fitting in the form of a customisable metal strap is available. This strap, featuring pre drilled holes, can be affixed to the roof using screws or nails and later concealed from view when the ridge base is installed with traditional mortar.
Versatility defines these owl ridge weathervanes, suitable for various roof types, gable ends, hip ends, houses, cottages, sheds, workshops, and even summer houses. Beyond roofing, this weathervane finds a second home as an ornamental feature in garden landscapes, infusing rooftops and outdoor spaces with intricate detailing and captivating charm. It stands as an ideal choice for those seeking to elevate their surroundings with a touch of enduring allure.
Brackets & Fixings
There are various methods for installing weathervane finials:
Traditional mortar bedding
Weathervane finials can be installed using the same process employed for ridge tiles, using standard mortar bedding. If the weathervane finial is tall, heavy, or requires enhanced stability, a supplementary mechanical fixing method can be utilised in conjunction with the mortar bed installation.
Mechanical fixing strap and mortar bedding
In this installation method, a galvanized metal strap is discreetly attached to the underside of the finial ridge base during manufacturing. This durable and flexible metal strap can be adjusted in length by cutting it down. Equipped with a series of holes, the strap can be screwed, nailed, or embedded in mortar to anchor it to a section of the roof structure. After securing the metal strap, installers can hide it from view by applying traditional mortar bed resulting in a seamless and tidy appearance.
Dry fixing
An alternative method for affixing finials to the roof is the dry fixing approach. This technique involves using a specific manufacturer's dry fixing system, typically incorporating brackets or alternative mechanical fasteners to attach ridge tiles and finials to the roof without the use of mortar. If you are considering a dry fix ridge system, please contact us to determine if this weathervane finial design can be adapted to be compatible with your chosen system.
